Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy cocktail)
Ingredients:
1 oz. Jack Daniels Whiskey
1 oz. Peach schnapps
4-6 oz. Orange juice
1 splash of Blue curacao
1 lemon twist
1 olive (optional)Directions: Fill a highball glass 3/4 full of ice. Add the Jack Daniels and peach schnapps, then top off with orange juice. Mix well, then add the blue curacao over the top. Garnish with a lemon twist and olive, if you chose to include it. Drink… but… very carefully…
May 25th is celebrated by many as Towel Day, paying tribute to Douglas Adams’ comical space book series, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. So naturally, tonight is the best night of the year to drink some Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters, which, according to the book, feels like having your brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a gold brick. While there are many “Earth” versions of the fictitious cocktail, the one we chose to post today is a more commonly served recipe. This version of the drink is served the Zaphod Beeblebrox nightclub and bar in Ottawa.

Just beat Fallout: New Vegas. With 5 HP after the giant fight at the end, lol. After beating this and Arkham City in the same weekend, I have decided that it is time to take a break from gaming for a little while and focus on doing awesome stuff in the real world.

So I used that Groupon that I got the other day and tried to be step outside of my comfort zone and give a new Chinese place a chance. I guess Asian House closed, because Chopstix was there.
Anyways, I went with Makashuu for dinner. We got dumplings (gyoza, technically) and beef w/ broccoli. The gyoza came out and this should have been the first sign that this adventure wasn’t gonna work out. It looked like the dumplings had been boiled and then just dropped in canola oil for a few seconds. Half of them were partially coming apart and they were SLIMY with oil. They tasted like they were bought from the freezer section at Meijer. Whatever, I ate 1/2 of them anyway. I knew I was gonna be eating Chinese food yesterday, so I had already gone for a run and had only had a yogurt and a small handful of pistachios to eat for the entire day. I was pretty hungry.
Then the entrees came out. Beef w/ broccoli is REALLY hard to fuck up, and it is usually a safe bet wherever you go. Not this time! Broccoli was way undercooked and the beef was tougher than expected. We both did not finish our meals and did not take the leftovers home. That bad. Also Makashuu’s fortune was pretty deep considering it came from a mass produced cookie. I can’t remember what it was, but as fortunes go, it blew my mind.
Either way I can’t complain too much because it only cost me $5 to get the $20 Groupon thanks to some discounts. Still, for my remaining 2 months in MI, I will stick with Gourmet Village.
